There
are several possible causes of erectile dysfunction. These include physical causes: Diabetes,
high blood pressure, vascular disease, hormonal disorders, neurological disorders,
smoking, use of recreational drugs or excessive alcohol, and side effects from
medications, particularly anti-hypertensives and anti-depressants. Possible psychological
causes include: depression, fear of intimacy, stress and anxiety, and marriage
difficulties. We offer a wide variety of therapies for the treatment of
erectile dysfunction. Oral medications that have widespread popularity include
Viagra, Levitra, and Cialis. For patients who do not respond or have medical contraindications
to oral therapy, we also offer penis injection therapy. Injectable medications
that have been shown to be effective include papaverine, phentolamine, and prostaglandin
E, either alone or in combination. For patients who do not respond to either
oral or injectable medications, we also offer penis implant surgery. There are
several types of penis implants available and include malleable implants, 2-piece
inflatable implants, and 3-piece inflatable implants. The advantages of the malleable
implant include its ease of insertion, longer durability, and lower cost compared
to inflatable implants. The advantage of the inflatable implants include its superior
concealability due to the ability to inflate and deflate the device. Premature
Ejaculation Premature ejaculation is believed to be the most common male
sexual disorder affecting an estimated one in four American men (young or old).
Premature ejaculation occurs when one ejaculates before he wants to (usually less
than 2 minutes) on a consistent basis which causes him anxiety or difficulty in
relationships. Premature ejaculation is believed to be caused by low levels of
serotonin in the brain. Medications that are currently being used for treatment
of premature ejaculation include clomipramine (Anafranil), sertraline (Zoloft),
and paroxatine (Paxil). These medications, however, are not FDA-approved for the
treatment of premature ejaculation. Dapoxetine is currently being reviewed by
the FDA for the treatment of premature ejaculation. For patients in whom oral
medications are ineffective, contraindicated or discontinued due to side effects,
penis injection therapy may be used to prolong erections.
